The Problem
The problem we want to fix is the lack of accessible, property-specific information that prevents Dallas residents from understanding whether solar energy is a viable and affordable option for them. Upfront installation costs, uncertainty about potential electricity-bill savings, and limited access to technical assessments can make solar adoption especially difficult for low-income households and underserved communities. SolarScout aims to bridge this information gap by using data on sunlight, roof space, and shading to estimate solar potential and potential savings, helping residents make informed decisions about renewable energy and supporting more equitable access to clean power across Dallas.
Our Plan
SolarScout aims to make renewable energy more accessible to citizens across Dallas by helping residents understand their properties' solar potential, estimated electricity generation, and potential cost savings. By analyzing factors such as rooftop sunlight, shading, and usable space, the app helps users identify promising solar opportunities and make more informed decisions about clean energy. SolarScout also seeks to support underserved communities by making solar information easier to access, helping residents and community organizations explore affordable renewable energy options and identify properties that could benefit from future solar installations. Ultimately, our goal is to use technology and data to reduce barriers to solar adoption and expand access to clean, affordable energy across Dallas.
