The Problem

Renew the Blue is a collaborative initiative to revitalize and restore the Blue River watershed, which runs through the Kansas City metro area. It is led by a partnership involving Heartland Conservation Alliance, Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), The Nature Conservancy, city governments, and other regional stakeholders. Their goal is to enhance recreation and access along the Blue River, Restore habitats and support native wildlife and encourage community participation and awareness.“Renew the Blue” presents a powerful opportunity to engage residents and students in strengthening the connection between nature and urban life. The scope of needs is vast—site restoration, trash removal, invasive species management, education, and outreach.

Our Plan

Every additional volunteer makes a meaningful difference. I plan to create simple, engaging lesson plans and visual materials to educate students about the Blue River and the conservation efforts led by the Renew the Blue campaign. My goal is to inspire student interest and encourage them to get involved. Ideally, we can organize sign-ups and volunteer as a group several times throughout the year.
