The Problem
We want to raise awareness about the newly implemented composting trial and enhance the sense of community within our school.

We hosted a fundraiser where students could purchase origami dragons and sustainable chocolate truffles to send to a friend along with a kind message. At the booth, we also put informational flyers and discussed the compost project with the students who came by.
The project was a success!! We educated a lot of students about the composting initiative and encouraged people to think about disposing their waste responsibly. We also raised around $89 and were able to bring smiles to many people's faces when they read the messages that were sent and received.
We learned that the best way to entice people to learn about composting is through (sustainable) chocolate truffles! Haha, just kidding. In reality, we learned that people are generally receptive and willing to change, we just need to change our method of communicating information. In-person contact was better for informing people about the composting system than the posters and announcements that we had up before. Also, something as simple as a note can make a huge difference in someone's day.
We would likely invest in more truffles, since we sold out this week! We would also put more of an emphasis on the option to send kind notes to strangers and focus on outreach for the students who don't use the commons during lunch.
The best part of the project was talking to the people who came to our booth. It was pretty hectic at times, but it was very rewarding to have those uplifting conversations.
The chocolate truffles we used were from Alter Eco! The chocolates are organic, fair-trade, GMO-free, and sustainable.
