The Problem
We want to help create greater awareness and appreciation of the beauty and need to protect our environment, wildlife and oceans.
We want to help create greater awareness and appreciation of the beauty and need to protect our environment, wildlife and oceans.
Bears for Cares is a new book series and campaign founded by author Lotus Kay and her sister, Jazmin, on Endangered Species Day as a project of Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots youth service program. The campaign aims to educate children about the state of wildlife and our earth, creating a compassionate world, and what they can do to make a difference through educational children’s books and companion stuffed toys. The Books: Lotus wrote More Beautiful Than Heaven when she was 16 to raise awareness about the beauty of nature and the Earth, the endangered state of wildlife and our environment, and ultimately inspire children to care for and protect the planet and our fellow inhabitants. She then wrote Billie the Octopus to educate kids about the beauty and importance of the ocean and protecting fish and marine life. Billie the Octopus also includes an educational “Ocean Facts” and “Plastic Facts” section, which highlights information about the alarming impact human activity has had on our oceans and marine life and steps in which readers can do to take action. Her new books include A Thanksgiving for the Turkeys, which presents a new way of thinking about food choices and Thanksgiving through a turkey’s eyes and will make you want to stretch your heart out to animals this year. Her latest book is Jenny the Chimpanzee, which reminds us of how similar we are to our fellow animals friends and how interconnected humans are with all other wildlife on this planet. An added bonus to “Jenny the Chimpanzee” are inspirational quotes from world-renowned ethologist and environmentalist Dr. Jane Goodall. The books are illustrated by artist Chey Diehl and are published by Eifrig Publishing on recycled, acid-free paper. Bears for Cares books are also available with stuffed animals based on characters in the books in partnership with toy company Hugg-a-Planet: Beary the Polar Bear (in “More Beautiful Than Heaven”), Billie the Octopus, Milo the Turkey and Jenny the Chimpanzee. Bears for Cares will donate a portion of its proceeds to the Jane Goodall Institute and her Roots & Shoots program to help support other young people passionate about helping our wildlife and planet. You can find out more about how to purchase the books and toys at the Bears for Cares site at www.bearsforcares.com.
