We are harming ourselves, other animals, and the planet we share; But for every reason to despair there is also hope!

Our effect on our planet has been unnecessarily destructive. We are poisoning the soil through large-scale industrial agriculture and extractive industries like mining for precious gems, minerals and natural gas. Increase of demand for animal products not only involves horrible cruelty to billions of animals in factory farms, but huge areas of wild habitats are destroyed to grow crops for animal feed.

You can turn things around.

This, however, does not mean we are unable to create change to make things better.  Right here you’ll find so many ways to help combat our negative impact and create a world where people, other animals and the environment exist in harmony.

What is industrial agriculture and what are extractive industries?

Industrial agriculture requires large spaces and a lot of natural resources to maintain, which means ecosystems are often destroyed as a result. Big factory farms cause cruelty to billions of animals and they produce large amounts of methane – a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change – and their waste, along with other runoff, is polluting our water.

To maintain other things like technology and demand for natural gas and minerals, we participate in extractive industries. These industries, like mining for precious gems and minerals like gold, tin, tungsten, cobalt, and tantalum (coltan) – used in modern technology – devastate ecosystems, can contribute to human conflict and terrible working conditions and harm wildlife.
