Good Things Come in Trees

Planting a Native Tree is Good for All!

Did you know that trees are super important for combating climate change, and that planting native trees helps to protect biodiversity?

Deforestation and forest degradation contributes as much as 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions each year–rivaling emissions from transportation globally. Restoring just 350 million hectares of forest could potentially sequester (offset) 1.7 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually (IUCN). Don’t leaf tackling deforestation to others – why not grow your own way to a better world?

Native Plant Search

What to do:

All you have to do is search by zip code to find a list of native plants. In the filter bar, select “TREES” for a fast list of local trees, as well as a list of the different bird species that tree may attract.

To source your tree:

  • Try checking in with your City programs. Some may have free tree programs!
  • Call local nurseries and ask for the native tree of your choice. Are they low on native plants? Let them know that as a local citizen, you believe they should be helping populate native plants in your community and suggest they begin selling them.
  • Order your plant through a local nursery or as a last ditch effort, buy it online.

Level Up

One idea is to invite family and friends to your tree planting and give your tree a name!
