A beach clean up, horseshoe crab educational forum, and horseshoe crab rescue event. It will be open to all ages, but targeted to kids 10-17
We planned a beach clean up for World Oceans Day with a horseshoe crab rescue education and pizza party event. When my state was under restrictions due to COVId-19, we changed it to a virtual World Oceans Day celebration focusing on the importance of saving horseshoe crabs and shorebirds in New Jersey’s Delaware Bay. It went great! We had photo and trivia contests for prizes, too! It was called the “Mermaid Goggles World Oceans Day Horseshoe Crab and Red Knot Learn-a-thon. For the prizes, we ordered books and gifts from the Jane Goodall Indtitute
We learned we could come together and be inspired even over the FB page event. We learned about red knots and their migration and the importance of horseshoe crabs to the ecosystem.
We’d like to be at the beach if safe to do so.
The presentation by shorebird and horseshoe crab experts from the Wetlands who agreed to do a virtual worship for this event.
We also connected with the youth events at the UN by promoting their Ocean Day webcasts and holding watch parties. We also had a watch party with Storytime with Jane as part of the event!
