The Problem
This project will help with water quality as one oyster will filter about 50 gallons of water per day! The WOW Oysters project will also engage the community as we will invite groups of students weekly to check on the oysters and test the water quality. Education is very important and we look forward to including local scientists to oversee our efforts and learn from about what is going on within the cage each week.
Our Plan
The WOW Oysters Project will enable participants to engage in citizen science, monitoring their habitats, collecting data on growth, and helping with clean water solutions. The project will work with and learn from the Brevard Zoo to raise the oysters.
We will attend workshops to lean about oyster gardening, get all of the supplies needed and hang a metal cage below docks to raise the oysters. We will monitor the oysters weeklly with local students and include scientists when ever possible.
