The Problem

At least 1 big box that I can donate at Christmas to a Charity filled with hats, mittens, and scarfs to keep people warm.

Our Plan

WHAT MY PROJECT DOES Keeps people warmer when it's cold to prevent them from getting sick. Helps low-income people not have to spend money for a hat, scarf, or gloves and put money towards something else they need. Helps people down and out realize that other people truly do care about their needs and are willing to provide them with something that helps their everyday life. Trust me, when its freezing cold and the wind is whipping these items make a difference for someone who would not have them otherwise. HOW WILL YOU DO IT? Using my leftover yarn from knitting projects I make throughout the year and any donations of yarn or money for yarn that people are willing to give me. I encourage crafty people to contribute or donate to the project if they wish to for a combined effort. :) If people wish to contribute to my project a single skein of the yarn I use can make about 1 1/2 to 2 children's hats. Or one skein can make a hat for an adult. It takes me about a day to make 1 hat. The yarn I use comes in a variety of colors and costs 3.99 without tax included. I am hoping by next Christmas I will have at least a large box of hats, scarves, and mittens to donate. Mittens usually take about a skein a piece or 2 for a pair. Scarves usually take 2 or 3 skeins depending on length.` If people would rather just donate a hat, gloves, or mittens that is fine too! WHAT PROGRESS HAVE I MADE? Currently, I have made 4 children's size hats for the project. WHAT ARE MY GREATEST CHALLENGES? Getting people to participate and donate. Teaching young people how to knit or crochet. I love to try and help people learn but sometimes I just don't feel I know maybe the best way to teach a young person. Once people are older they usually have more patience and can follow instructions step by step. But young kids kind of struggle to stay engaged and it can seem overwhelming to them.
