The Problem
My wish is to promote career awareness in the area of veterinary medicine and to give the students practical lessons in ways of working with animals.
Our Plan
Our project included veterinarian Dr. Sara Mummert, from Timberview Veterinary Clinic. She has visited our Roots & Shoots group each year for the past several years. Sara talks to the students about caring for pets, approaching and handling pets, what is needed to become a vet and some interesting anecdotes. She gives the students an opportunity to listen to a dog or cat's heart, read x-rays, observe artifacts such as bones, teeth, etc. to determine the animal's diagnosis. The students then record any information they choose to remember in their Roots & Shoots journal.
