The Problem
We hope to increase awareness about the importance of urban forests.
Our Plan
Vista high school is in a community that is designated as urban, but we have many places on campus and in our community that serve as habitat for various species of small wildlife and birds. The problem is that people do not recognize this and therefore do not manage the trees, plants and abiotic factors with regard to the importance of keeping a healthy urban forest. We plan to do a survey to determine the number, variety and density of tree species on and surrounding our campus. Results will be shared with science classes and our Environmental club with the hope of creating a campus wide educational campaign on the importance of urban forests.
