The Problem

We will plant native trees and perennial flowers in the yard of the local home for the elderly to bring some natural beauty for them to see and experience. These native trees should also bring resources for bees, birds, and butterflies.

Here is how the project went:

This project went well. The children had a wonderful time selecting the trees to plant, digging holes, and planting the trees.

Through this project I/we learned:

We learned about local trees, how they impact their environment of birds and butterflies, and we learned about concerns like emerald ash borer.

What I/we might change:

Nothing. We loved every bit of it.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

The kids say they loved digging in the dirt and getting messy. I enjoyed watching them work together and gain a deeper appreciation and love of the environment.

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

We talked to local arborists to better understand the transplant and planting process.
