The Problem

There is a lack of shade on campus for children who are playing in temperatures above 95 degrees during the warmer months. There is also a need to create spaces for native California plants in order to promote native biodiversity and a habitat for wildlife.

Our Plan

The students in my class (Hickory's tree team) are going to replace 2000 square feet of grass with native California plants, including 3 California live oak trees. The trees will provide shade for the playground structure and a habitat for wildlife. The area is currently a strip of unused grass along the southern border of the school.
