The Problem

Two invasive species are out of control in Western Washington-- Himalayan blackberries and ivy. We are choosing to tackle the ivy problem because it is causing damage to area trees. Urban trees are important for myriad reasons including improving air quality, mental health and lowering temperatures.

Our Plan

With the PTA we will meet to 'free the trees' of ivy. We will start with a greenbelt near the school and clear the base of the tree of ivy. Then we will remove the bottom 3 feet or so of the ivy to prevent it from continuing to thrive. I would like to buy clippers and loppers for the kids and families to use.
