The Problem

We wish that this project will help bring together the diverse community within our school. We hope to raise awareness about food justice and encourage people to discover where their food comes from. We hope to better the campus experience for all students and faculty. We hope to provide educational opportunities to the children in the daycare and we hope to teach them the value of life, peace, and cultivation. We hope to help create a more sustainable campus and show others that no matter where one is or who one is one can always participate in the movement for a better world and in turn better one's own life. We want to show that its okay to ask for help and that together we can be powerful catalysts for change.

Our Plan

The project is starting a campus garden club to help build and maintain sustainable and organic courtyard gardens on campus. We hope to get as much of the school participating as possible. We will grow food and herbs for the cafeteria and provide opportunities for people of all ages and all creeds to get their hands dirty and learn about where their food comes from and why it's important. We hope to provide educational opportunities for the daycare center planting transplants and building bird and bug houses. Our club plans to plant bee and butterfly friendly flowers as well as hatch some butterflies to release into the gardens. We also hope to give students an opportunity to create art for the spaces out of 100% recycled items. We are also trying to use as little input as possible by building some of the raised beds out of reclaimed and recycled materials. We are currently in the process of planning the designs and finding donors to our cause. We already have one club, a few committees, and a compost donor all working on the project now and as far as I know everyone is on board and fairly excited.
