The Problem
85% of all clothes will currently end up in the landfill, while families in our community face a rising need for many essentials. This project combines environmental waste and economic hardship here in Bloomington-Normal to break the cycle of landfill dumping by using clothing in a practical way before it is left in landfills.
Our Plan
We are creating an initiative to collect unwanted clothing from the community and turn it into reusable tote bags. By hosting donation drives with thrift shops, the Miller Park Zoo, and our school's environmental club, we will use materials that would otherwise be thrown away. We will then sew these fabrics together into bags to be donated to local food pantries, shelters, and natural disaster missions.
