The problem we aim to fix is to stop the drainage of pool water into storm drains. This drainage allows harmful chemicals from pool water to directly affect our drinking water and aquatic life. Most storm drains lead directly into rivers and lakes with the water never being treated, making this an essential issue. Pool owners are unaware and uneducated about this issue.
We aim to raise awareness, inspire action, and provide alternative pool draining techniques. Specifically, we will be creating pamphlets that will be distributed to local communities that will appeal to pool owners informing them of this issue. Also, we will use social media to obtain a larger reach, explaining the harms and risks of draining pool water into storm drains, alternate draining techniques, and engaging content to encourage responsible practices and prevent this issue.
