The Problem

The Wastenaut teams (students) will learn how they can develop a solution to tackle the environmental problems caused by waste. The objective of the project is to educate students about sustainability and empower them to reduce, reuse, and recycle in their communities and learn how everyday materials can be recycled into something useful rather than being thrown away. Environmental and waste management experts will also present to the students. Students will use the 4Rs, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to develop ideas to reduce the negative impact a product has on the environment. They will develop sustainable goals and make recommendations on how waste can be recycled to build a more sustainable future. The Wastenaut teams will apply what they have learned by taking a neighborhood learning walk to collect sustainable items to repurpose for use by making products that will be used to conduct a makers camp at the community center for senior citizens. They will teach the participants how to take recyclable materials and use them to make useful products, which may include toys, household goods, etc.

Our Plan

We are planning to learn how we can take a sustainable waste product and turn them into products that can be used for those who live in underresourced communities and have limited funds and resources to purchase items that can be used for efficiency.
