The Problem
Many people in Fremont don’t know much about their community’s past. In Silicon Valley, the center of technological innovation, people are often focused on the future, overshadowing the area's rich local history. The land LEAF’s urban farm and community garden sit on has a long history, from the formation of Alameda Creek and the Ohlone people to Mission San José, the ranchos, and the railroads. But right now, there is nothing at LEAF that shares this history with visitors. When I presented my research at LEAF’s fundraiser, everyone told me how much they learned, which showed me most people don’t know this history but have the interest to learn.
