The Problem

The problem we want to fix is the global pollinator crisis, which highlights the rapid and large decline of important insects like monarch butterflies and bees due to habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change. Additionally, many young children view insects as "pests" that sting and bite, thus thinking that they are harmful and unwanted.

Our Plan

The Bloomington High School's environmental club is taking action on this crisis by going to different elementary schools around Bloomington-Normal area and educating students about pollinators and how important they are to the environment. For our curriculum, we bring in different stages of monarch butterflies for students to observe, we show a simulation of how bees gather pollen, and collaborate together to create seed balls that can be planted in their own backyard.
