The Problem
Tilling soil opens the land to soil erosion, and is addressed with the application of unnecessary chemicals into agricultural lands in the typical model of "industrial agriculture".

I was born and raised in Minnesota where agriculture is a major lifestyle and income source. Traditionally, farm acreage is tilled in spring. We suggest that leaving crop residue and seeding into this residue not only drastically reduces the need for chemicals (fertilizer and herbicides), but enables a soil type that is best suited for carbon storage--especially in the rich ecosystem of soil fungi.
