The Problem

Most of the land SUNY Orange is on is developed, recent remodeling updated facilities, but we believe that the green spaces on campus deserved just as much support and effort.

Our Plan

Thanks to SUNY Orange, the Orange County Department of Planning and through NYSERDA Clean Energy Community award funding, we purchased native speeches of sapling and bushes from our local Adam’s Fairacre Farms! We were able to rally volunteers and in tandem with the support and energy generated by Climate Solutions week, students from both the Middletown and Newburgh campuses went out in the rain to plant the first batch in September and October! It was a huge effort and success made possible by the people and commitment in our community, but the work isn’t done. We have more trees and bushes that need planting through the next few weeks, and we need volunteers to plant, organize, promote, and brainstorm. Our hope is to keep the energy alive by growing our community, and to continue the progress, growth, and support of local biodiversity and to the quality of our campus environment. Dates of future tree planting are to be announced so please stay tuned, and of course, thank you for joining us!
