The Problem
Problem Statement: Pembroke Township is one of the poorest areas in Kankakee County, IL. 98% of school age children qualify for free lunches. In 2009, two of the three elementary schools closed limiting access to reading material. Studies have shown children that read have better vocabularies and better test scores. I want to provide books for children to keep in their homes so that they can explore places and read about people they may have never been exposed to before.
