Styrofoam Waste Reduction

The Problem

We would like to change the way our school district packages and serves food to our students, and what happens to the non-biodegradable containers after the food is eaten. Most of the food is served in plastic bags or plastic containers which are then thrown away instead of recycled. The food is served on styrofoam trays, which are non-recyclable and also do not break down in the environment.

Our Plan

We would like to work with our neighbor school to create a recycling program for plastic food containers at school, and also reduce waste by finding an alternative to the styrofoam trays being used to serve food.
