The Problem

The Stem Launch Community is located in a food desert. We want to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the community, while teaching the community how to grow and maintain gardens.

Our Plan

We plan to plant fruit trees as an addition to our community garden. Due to construction on our building we were not able to plant the fruit trees outside, so we purchased the trees and put them inside our school in our solarium.

Here is how the project went:

Unfortunately we were not allowed to plant the trees outside due to construction. Our garden club quickly pivoted and we researched and ordered fruit trees that we could plant indoors in pots. These are housed in our school solarium.

Through this project I/we learned:

Through this project we learned that it isn't easy to plant trees anywhere you want. Rules and restrictions made us think outside the box. We are very happy with our solution.

What I/we might change:

Try to get a hydroponics tower to grow food inside.

Planting the trees.

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

Lime trees and persimmon trees are good to plant inside.
