The Problem

Our goal is to tackle the increasing disconnect people have with the sources of their food by offering education on sustainable and adaptable agricultural practices.

Our Plan

Our Roots and Shoots project seeks to provide a community space where we can teach the principles of permaculture as it relates to food production and focusing on Earth care, People care and Fair share (sharing our food with the community).

Here is how the project went:

The project went very well. The students learned the importance of planting pollinators and sharing with our community. They also learned how to plant a tree.

Through this project I/we learned:

Participants gained hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture and permaculture principles, empowering them with knowledge to advocate for environmental sustainability. And importantly, they also learned how to properly plant a tree.

What I/we might change:

I would definitely put deadlines for responses on my correspondence. Even though I had several groups initially interested, when the time came, they weren't able to commit. Had I had deadlines, I would have reacted faster.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

I loved working alongside the students. They are an inspiration to me!

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

Provide food and reach out to as many people as you can. Chances are that some of the people that you reach out to may initially be interested, but then not be available to commit to the project.
