It began with needing to have nature, nurture and connection during shelter-in-place. We couldn't sing together over zoom--synching voices in real-time wasn't possible. Roots & Shoots [Jane Goodall Foundation] funded a grant to create and send home a succulent plant for each student.
Caring for our cacti, we created new rhyming words, sung to familiar Holiday tunes. We recycled school breakfast cereal containers for the pots, got donated soil and plant cuttings, added decorative stones and sculpted tiny toys of clay for the cactus, to put in the pot with them. All became a gift to the students and their families, placed in a hand-colored paper bag and stapled shut with a ribbon.
