The Problem
The children will donate food from their homes to our local food banks. They hope to make it possible for needy families in our community able to enjoy a family dinner during the holidays.
Our Plan
The children will learn that there are families within a few miles of our school that need food to eat. They will study a unit on nutrition and review how the school gardens had grown food for a food bank. The classes will challenge each other of the same ages to compete in an effort to bring in the most items. The Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin will deliver empty barrels and the children will collect items during the month of November. The filled barrels of food will be delivered to the food bank by community volunteers.
