The Problem
The students at the Academy of Tucson Middle School have a strong desire to preserve the Monarch Butterfly. Tucson is near the Mexican border and the Monarch has one of the most remarkable migrations as it travels from Mexico to Canada.
Our Plan
The students have a designated area near a playground and plan to plant milkweed bushes for the butterflies. The students are researching which type of milkweed is best and the optimum planting months for the southern Arizona climate. Funds have been raised for the purchase of the soil and materials for a raised bed. The current time frame is to plant in May 2016.
