The Problem

Our school community faces a lack of access to hands-on learning opportunities that connect students to the environment, food systems, and sustainability practices. Many students have limited understanding of where their food comes from, how it grows, and the importance of caring for the planet. This disconnect contributes to poor dietary habits, limited environmental awareness, and fewer opportunities for experiential learning in science and ecology. By creating a school garden, we aim to address this gap, fostering curiosity, healthy habits, and environmental stewardship while enriching the curriculum with practical, engaging activities.

Our Plan

We plan to create a school garden that will serve as a living classroom for students of all grades. This garden will include raised beds for vegetables and herbs, pollinator-friendly plants, and a composting area. Students will actively participate in every step, from planning and planting to harvesting and maintaining the garden. The project will integrate into the curriculum by providing hands-on lessons in science, math, health, and environmental studies. Additionally, we will host workshops and family engagement events to extend the benefits of the garden to the broader school community.
