The Problem
Our school garden restoration project aims to address the neglect and disrepair that our once vibrant garden has fallen into. Over time, due to lack of maintenance and attention, the garden has become overgrown with weeds, its infrastructure has deteriorated, and its potential as an educational and recreational space has been diminished. By restoring the school garden, we aim to transform it into a thriving and functional outdoor classroom and community hub, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities, promoting environmental stewardship, and fostering a sense of pride and ownership among the school community.
Our Plan
The action we are planning involves mobilizing volunteers, students, and staff to revitalize the neglected school garden. This includes clearing out overgrown vegetation, repairing garden infrastructure, sourcing and planting specific native plants such as California milkweed and monarch-friendly species. These plants are crucial for attracting and supporting pollinators like butterflies and bees, including the iconic monarch butterfly. By reintroducing these native species, we aim to restore biodiversity and create a welcoming habitat for beneficial insects, ultimately transforming the garden into a vibrant and educational space for the school community.
