Here is how the project went:
The first beach cleanup went very well! We got a lot of trash, especially plastic bags, off the beach and disposed of it properly; we filled two extra large trash bags to the brim.
Through this project I/we learned:
We learned that there are tremendous amounts of trash littered at the beach in particular. It is especially important to properly dispose of trash on beaches in order to prevent the waste from going into the ocean and causing further harm to marine life and polluting. Every piece counts.
What I/we might change:
We will bring more trash bags onto the beach with us; you can never pick up too much trash! In addition, we also want to bring more grabber tools to reach more trash from tighter places so that we can pick up as much as possible.
My/our favorite part of this project was:
Our favorite part of this cleanup was looking for areas full of trash and ensuring that every piece, big or small, is picked up when we were done with that area.
Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:
When participating in a beach cleanup, make sure to bring a warm jacket because it can get very windy. Also, gloves are a must! Also, grabber tools are beneficial in picking up if you have one. Picking up trash is like a treasure hunt: very enjoyable, social, and gratifying. Most importantly, helping keep our environment clean matters now more than ever! YOU can have an impact!
