The Problem

Through our study of Environmental issues related to the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, our student decided they wanted to research ways to save our landfills from plastic bags. During this research our students learned about using plastic bags to make bed mats for the homeless. After meeting with local agencies focused on recycling and caring for the homeless. Our students decided to take on the task. We experimented with different methods to determine the most sustainable mat. We have received many donations of plastic bags from friends and families. Our plan is to create a hygiene kits to go with out gifts of mats to the homeless.

Our Plan

We want to partner with local agencies that help the homeless. We will provide them with a recycled mat, hygiene kit, and notes of encouragement. Elm Street will have it's second annual Salvation Army Run. We will raise money to cover the cost of running the local Salvation Army for a day, which is $300.00. Students will blog about the experience.
