The Problem

I want kids in hard situations to be able to read diverse books, be inspired to do great things, and express themselves creatively.

Our Plan

My non-profit organization, Reading Treasury, creates boxes with books and bookish gifts for kids in homeless shelters in Bridgeport. I primarily give the boxes to Alpha Community Services, the only emergency shelter for families--including kids ages newborn to 17--in the city. I started Reading Treasury in 2020, during the pandemic, when books served as an escape and a meaningful way to fill time.

What I/we might change:

If possible, I'd like to add more books to the bags.

My/our favorite part of this project was:

I always love seeing the pictures of people receiving their bags afterwards.

Some tips, tricks or fun facts about the project:

Always believe in yourself! You can do it! Creativity and hard work will always be some of the best traits.
