The Problem

Improve campus recycling, promote awareness and importance of recycling, and get more students, faculty, staff and families involved. Purchase a recycling bin that will be effective for recycling in our gym during events held there. Become more involved with community efforts to help reduce, reuse and recycle. Plan a week long environmental collaborative event on campus evolving around Environmental Awareness Week and Earth Day.

Our Plan

Roots & Shoots 6-8 grade students and 6th grade Green Team coordinate campus recycling each week by collecting and recycling paper, plastic, cardboard, and aluminum. Students, with the guidance of a contractor, constructed a recycle hut to house aluminum cans for recycling. They also work with community business partner, called the Mr. Murph recycling program (Trash to Waste Management). Students will help promote awareness and importance of reducing, recycling, and reusing during campaign with posters, informative facts, and a skit for younger students.
