Our school serves about 900 students, and our "front yard" is extremely compacted. Additionally, any attempt to grow plants results in them being trampled by students and their families before and after school. We want to provide native plants for monarchs that will survive in our small green space.
Our goal is to establish a native butterfly garden club to close the gap that exists between urban students and nature, as well as to teach students how to be good environmental stewards. Our pre-school through 8th-grade school has limited green space, and we want to introduce native plants to our school's landscaping through the use of large planters.
