The Problem
We want to fix period poverty in Sacramento County and expand further.

We are planning to utilize funds to donate menstrual products to food banks, women's centers, and other distributor sites. This will help us alleviate period poverty. We also hope to learn other sustainable ways to tackle period poverty.
This project went really well! We were able to make a tangible change in the community, raise awareness about the period poverty crisis, and help students maintain their periods safely and discreetly.
I learned to challenge authority respectfully while advocating for change on a topic I am passionate about.
I might be more adamant towards pushing administration; I was very patient with them and persisted for months before they changed their minds. In the future, I hope to break institutional barriers faster and with more urgency!
My favorite part of this project was reading the feedback people gave on the dispensers and new products. They loved our innovative dispenser design (dispensers were installed in each stall rather than next to the sinks) and said it made them feel more comfortable on campus! Knowing students feel safer and healthier as a result of this makes all of the work worth it for me!
The only way the job gets done is by persisting and challenging policies/structures you disagree with!
