Protecting Trees at Beaver Creek

The Problem

I was taught how to ski as a toddler on the trails along beaver creek. This tract of land was recently sold for logging development. Not only is this a great habitat and recreational area, it's also a popular site for environmental science education. The students in LEAF hope to protect some of the trees that are used for education, including a huge Engelmann Spruce.

Our Plan

On December 28th, our club went snowshoeing around the logging sight. We brought a journalist from our local newspaper along. He wrote an excellent article on the importance of protecting the trees around Beaver Creek, and it was published on the front page of our newspaper! We hope to continue to work with the State Institutional Land Trust Administration to negotiate protecting some parts of the area.
