"Pop Tops" Lid and Drive Campaign was begun by the 5th grade Green Team at West Patent Elementary to help reduce the amount of plastic in our waste stream and oceans. After studying the Great Pacific Garbage Patch we were called into action and we created a campaign to collect and repurpose the caps and lids to create garden murals.
We will continue to advertise this campaign to the entire school to bring in plastic bottle tops from home and save them in school at lunch and snack time. We have made collections stations and kept track of how many caps we have collected each week. We will share our findings and research on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch at our Earth Day assembly and then will be creating and building garden murals for the school gardens.
