The Problem

Our sensory garden will be a wonderful space that serves two important purposes. First, it helps pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other helpful insects by providing a safe and welcoming place for them to find food and shelter. The flowers and plants we choose will attract these pollinators, which are so important for our environment and help keep plants healthy. At the same time, our garden will be a calming, sensory-friendly space for our students, especially those in our ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) program. The garden’s different textures, colors, and scents will offer sensory experiences that help students feel calm and engaged. They’ll have the chance to explore the garden, enjoy the natural beauty, and connect with the world around them in a peaceful, hands-on way. It’s a special place that supports both our pollinators and our students!

Our Plan

Our Title I school, with its wonderfully diverse student population and specialized ASD program, would greatly benefit from a pollinator and sensory garden. This garden would offer hands-on learning experiences that connect students with nature, teach about pollination, and encourage responsibility and care for living things. For our students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, the sensory elements—like the different textures, scents, and colors of plants—provide a calming, therapeutic space that supports sensory engagement. The garden would be a unique, inclusive place where every child can learn, explore, and grow in a peaceful, naturefilled environment that enriches our school community.
