Phytoremediation of unused Planting Areas

The Problem

We wish to adequately demonstrate how planting edible crops, such as corn--a culturally relevant staple food--and sunflowers offers multiple services to the students of Fremont High: 1. provides food in corn and sunflower seed, 2. beautifies the unused planting areas, and 3. heals the petroleum-contaminated soil through phytoremediation. We wish to demonstrate the aforementioned in time for our annual Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 18th at the Fremont Wellness Center & Community Gardens on Fremont High's campus.

Our Plan

Our project will complete the three aforementioned goals in the next six weeks and through to the end of the plant life cycle of the corn and sunflowers to be planted.
