The Problem

Lack of Environmental Awareness Among Visitors Many visitors are not aware of proper behavior in a zoological environment. Issues include littering, loud noise, and feeding animals improperly, which can harm the animals’ health and well-being. Neglect of the Zoo’s Historical and Heritage Value Giza Zoo, established in 1891, is one of the oldest zoological gardens in the region, yet it is rarely presented as a modern heritage site. Visitors often see it only as a leisure space, not as part of Cairo’s cultural and environmental heritage. Limited Youth Engagement and Community Participation There are few platforms for students and youth to participate in meaningful, hands-on environmental or heritage-based activities. This project provides a space for university students to contribute actively through field-based educational actions.

Our Plan

This volunteer project aims to raise environmental awareness among visitors of the Giza Zoo – one of Egypt’s most iconic and historic zoological gardens. The project highlights the importance of protecting both animals and their habitats, while also promoting the zoo\'s cultural and historical significance as a modern heritage site. Target Audience: General zoo visitors (especially families, school children, and youth), with the involvement of university student volunteers
