The Problem

The primary thing I noticed in the last year was that even the best shelter is hard for dogs. They can be busy, loud, and even with volunteers to visit with them and take them out it always feels like they don't get to just be a dog. It is harder than I thought to volunteer and visit the dogs knowing that they only get outside for a brief time everyday. I realize now that I really want to get dogs OUT of the shelter, even for a day. I have noticed that some shelters have 'doggy day out' programs. I would LOVE for my next R&S project to be training, communicating, and building a project that picks up dogs from local shelter and brings them to my property to run and swim and play in the wide open (fenced) space. I would like to document it- help get the dogs adopted while also letting them have a day to stretch their legs and roll in real grass. Use my blessings for others.

Our Plan

I feel my project will be successful if it is able to connect with at least 2-4 local shelters and make this happen. I have helped lots of cats by fostering, but being able to bring a dog to acreage to run and/or swim for a day I feel I can help more dogs in a shorter amount of time. I would try to help the shelters communicate with photos to help with foster or adoption for the dog. Most of all, to see the dogs enjoy their day filled with love and nature, knowing they got out of the stressful shelter environment would be a huge success! My goal would be do 2 dogs a month..maybe even working up to a dog a week. We could also document if they get adopted, do they seem happier, does the community get more involved after seeing what we are doing?
