The Problem
Homelessness and Poverty after foster care
Homelessness and Poverty after foster care
Next Steps recognizes the unique challenges faced by former foster youth as they transition into adulthood. The R&S Projects will allow us to teach valuable life skills, such as how pollinator plants affect bees, as we will be working with a local beekeeper to place a hive on the property. How can these young adults who are facing poverty after aging out and getting on their own feet grow their own herbs and veggies? These are just some areas the R&S project will address while providing an outlet for healing from past trauma. Each client that Next Steps serves will be allowed to plan the project from the start, from what plants will be planted, what veggies will be grown, and what fruit trees will be planted. The young adults will also be responsible and taught how to water the garden, fertilize the plants, weed and take care of the plants.
