Nestbox Construction for Local Habitats

The Problem

Students are building nest boxes for many native species which rely on tree hollows. Unfortunately our old trees with hollows have been destroyed so this program will give our local community access to affordable nestboxes and information to improve hollow habitats for these species.

Our Plan

Currently, our grade 4 students are mentoring our grade 1's in the construction of nest boxes. The grade 1's have been learning about the endangered Leadbeater's possum, orange-bellied parrot and helmeted honey-eater. The nest box construction program supports these projects and local habitats in backyards, parks and reserves.
