The Problem
Across the U.S, music and arts education are disappearing from public schools at alarming rates. According to the Save The Music Foundation, over 7,000 public schools in the U.S have no music programs at all, with many schools primarily serving Black, Hispanic, immigrant, and low-income communities. When music education is continually denied to specific demographics because of barriers to access, we silence the cultural voices of entire, vulnerable communities that could harness this art to express their lived experiences. Music education provides the tools for self-expression, confidence, and listening across differences.
