The Problem

Helping the unsheltered homeless to protect themselves and get needed supplies during hot, summer months.

Our Plan

Students researched and discussed the importance of Sun Safety and how it helps to prevent health issues. They then created a fact postcard with helpful tips to stay safe in the Sun. Lastly, they decorated visors and filled small bottles with sunscreen and attached everything onto a key chain so that unsheltered individuals could keep it with them.

Here is how the project went:

We had a great time. The students in K-8 researched the importance of sun safety and ways to protect ourselves from the Sun's rays. Students created a postcard with sun safety information and tips. Along with teacher support and the grant money, we purchased 100 sun visors, and each student decorated 2 or 3. We then filled mini bottles with sunscreen, attached a water spray bottle, along with the laminated info card and visor for 100 kits for unsheltered homeless individuals. The kits will be presented to Mr. Michael Gorman, Founder of TMF (The Movement Family) located in Lawrence, Massachusetts, who has plans to visit our school.
