To "goggle" means to look with your eyes wide open. Mermaid Goggles hopes to assist other children in directing movies about issues in their own local communities in order to have a voice to share problems and/or solutions that impact them. Mermaid Goggles wishes for children to express their creativity and concerns and make their community see their world with eyes wide open.
Mermaid Goggles will hold workshops for young people ages 17 and under to learn filmmaking skills and also the Roots and Shoots model for identifying issues in the community in need of awareness. MG will then ask for youth directed original short film submissions for the Mermaid Goggles Youth Film Festival which will offer a red carpet and big screen screening celebration opportunity. Every film selected will receive an award and each director will receive a certificate and customized recommendations for showing his/her movie to others in their community to maximize awareness of their issue. The film festival will also be presented and films available on the Mermaid Goggles Facebook page.
