The Problem
We want youth to have a voice by making films about environmental awareness in their communities.

A youth directed environmental film festival. With a Roots & Shoots grant in the past, we have held a youth environmental film festival and it was a huge success! Over 350 films were submitted from all over the world! It was held on November 4, 2022, at the Wagner Free Institute of Science in Philadelphia, with a large audience in attendance and was a big success! See our program of screened films below.
Excellent! It was a great honor to help amplify the voices of youth around the world on social issues, the environment, and helping animals and people at the Discovery Film Festival. It was also an inspiration to share a film by a filmmaker who has worked on “Wolfwalkers” and “The Breadwinner” that were Oscar-nominated films. As always, Dr. Jane Goodall is the inspiration for this festival. Thank you Roots & Shoots USA and Wagner Free Institute of Science for your support.
We learned that youth around the world have similar concerns about the environment and social justice issues. 350 films from 71 different countries were submitted and 12 were selected for the film festival. We also learned about our differences in culture, lifestyle, and environments.
We would try to have the festival held in conjunction with another event to increase attendance. We would also like to hold a red carpet-style event along with the film festival.
Helping to amplify youth voices around the world.
The use of Film Freeway to advertise the film festival is free if there is no charge for the film submissions. It is an excellent service for both filmmakers and film festival hosts.
