Marine Mammal Protection-Trip for Educators

The Problem

We wish to broaden the scope of curriculum that only provides basic facts about animals, to include protection and reverence for animals as well. Many educators take students on field trips to see captive marine mammals and thus implicitly teach children that it is natural. This project offers educators an alternative way to have students observe animals more naturally. It also provides literature focused on individual marine mammals and their rescue to foster reverence for these animals.

Our Plan

We will organize a trip for educators to Long Island, NY for a seal walk led by a local expert. We will provide humane books, lesson plans, and other resources to the teachers. We want to grow a network of teachers able to include animal protection as part of their curriculum.
